Handi-Riders a nonprofit will team up with local businesses to benefit the community, special needs and veterans at a summer camp on Friday. Handi-Riders has invited 14 local businesses and sponsors like PG&E, ARC, Little Red Hen, Ford in Gridley, Chico Creek Wholesale Nursery,Cleanrite Buildrite, Four Seasons Roofing to come together to provide a special last day of summer camp for children. This is the first of four one-week summer camps.

Barry Kirshner from The Wildlife Sanctuary will be bringing birds and reptiles from the sanctuary at 11 a.m. on Friday after summer camp. Donna Hernandez, Handi-Riders Executive Director said the more we are as a community helping each other out the better that we are as a community. “We’re trying to find solutions to help with fundraisers and we’re trying to get other nonprofits to work together.” Every week at the end of camp class the goal of the summer camp is to have someone special come out to the site she said.

The special events started as something special for her summer camp and she said she thought it would be nice to open it to other vendors and other businesses that has helped them out she said. To bring other nonprofits in to know who Handi-riders are is the goal.” Handi-Riders has been serving Northern California since 1981 by providing equine assisted therapy to children and adults suffering from physical, emotional and intellectual disabilities. Hernandez said the organization is not just for special needs. “We’re open to schools coming out ( to the program) as a class, we are open to a lot of things out in the public.”

The wildlife sanctuary is coming to the summer camp for free. Each summer camp is one week long. The first week is wildlife sanctuary, the second week is to be determined, the third week is liberty and bridleless demonstration and the fourth week is horse vaulting. The summer Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Correlare has selected

Inspire High school, Wildflower Elementary school and the Children's Choir of Chico

to partner together with us for a special fundraiser!

We have a beautiful original Falcone Grand Piano that is being raffled to raise funds for both schools music programs, as well as helping the Children's Choir of Chico to obtain a new piano.

This Falcone was originally purchased for $75,000 and was made when the Falcone family still owned the business!
